This is an absolutely true story, which just occurred with one of our Los Angeles roofing clients. Several months ago, this client had a "roofer"come out to "fix" a leaking skylight and do some minor roofing repairs. Supposedly repairs were done, roof leaks were fixed and the customer paid good hard money assuming it was done correctly. We finally got a little rain here in Southern California last week and this clients roof and repaired skylight are leaking like crazy! Ironically, the "roofer" is nowhere to be found now and can't be reached on their phone. Sad, but we hear this every single day in our roofing industry and it's one of the number one complaints to the Better Business Bureau and Contractors State License Board.
Customer called us on our 24 Hour Emergency line in a panic, we answered the phone immediately and sent one of our project managers over right away to survey the problem. Low and behold, not only did this "roofer" do a shoddy, terrible leak repair (roofing shingles and felt not repaired right, skylight mounted to low to the deck, no roofing crickets, mastic everywhere, etc.) but tucked away behind a chimney, in an inconspicuous area of this clients roof, was the trash and debris from the previous roof repair done months ago. The "roofer" couldn't even carry his open can of mastic, trash and torch off the roof!! The moral of the story folks, to share with all of your friends and family members who may be considering a new roof or roof repair... Don't hire any Tom, Dick or Harry who drives a pick-up truck, has a ladder and calls themselves a "roofer"... Hire a legitimate Roofing Company who is fully licensed, insured, bonded and has excellent ratings and reviews with the BBB and consumer review sites such as Angie's List and Yelp!
The end... Now share and pass this valuable message along to your friends, co-workers and family, you may just save someone a lot of headaches and money.
