Not all roofers and solar contractors are created equal.
We always make the recommendation to our clients to complete a thorough and proper investigation on all roofing and solar contractors they are considering for their potential project. There are many variables that affect the price of a new roof or solar system and several factors to consider when choosing your contractor. Of utmost importance is the background investigation, testimonial, and consumer resources that exist today to help you in judging whether a contractors workmanship, customer service, insurances and overall past project experiences pass the smell test.
If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.
Utilizing roofing and solar resources such as the California Contractor State License Board (CSLB), Better Business Bureau (BBB), insurance certifications, Yelp, Angie’s List, BuildZoom, roofing and solar manufacturer’s websites, etc. one can more clearly formulate a picture of how established and qualified a contractor is to complete the job.
Because we feel this overall research effort is important before someone invests such a sizeable amount of money in a new roof or solar system, we have taken the steps to accumulate some screening data on our company, Chandler’s Roofing. Yes, we work very hard at customer service and reputation management, not just quality workmanship! We’re putting our findings front and center for our current and future clients in Los Angeles County and Orange County to review and we hope you share with those you may know who are in need of a new residential or commercial solar roofing system.
CSLB (Roofing / Solar)- One of the best resources to verify Chandler’s Roofing’s license, worker’s compensation and insurance bonds are active, with no pending penalties. Also ensure that the contractor is carrying the proper license classification to complete the work he is proposing. Chandler’s Roofing for example carries a C-39 (roofing), C-10 (electrical) and a B (general contractor) license which covers us for any roofing and solar related projects.
NRCA - Check and see if your contractor is a part of any leading industry contractor’s associations like the National Roofing Contractor Association, which Chandler’s Roofing has been a member of since 2006. Organizations like this help keep contractors current on roofing and solar industry best practices, OSHA safety guidelines, current state requirements, employer mandates, etc.
BBB - Inspect the contractor’s Better Business Bureau rating and see if they have any pending complaints, how many they have had in the last 3 years, how long they have been accredited and any additional info the BBB can provide. As you will see with Chandler’s Roofing BBB page, we have an A+ rating, no open complaints, no complaints in the last 3 years, have accredited with the BBB since 1993 and in existence since 1942!
Manufacturer’s Certifications - Always take a good look and see if your contractor is certified and properly trained in the roofing or solar system they are proposing to install. You never want your contractor or his crew learning for the very first time on your project. Nor, do you want your contractor to leave you with an expensive mess to correct simply because his guys were not thoroughly trained on the complete system, components and warranties from the start. Chandler’s Roofing is certified and trained in almost every major roofing system and we have strong manufacturer’s support with companies such as GAF, IB Roof Systems, Boral, Custom-Bilt Metals, CertainTeed, Gaco Roof Coatings and many more. As a company, Chandler’s Roofing has more service awards and certifications with GAF, the leading residential and commercial roofing manufacturer in North America, than any other roofing contractor in Los Angeles or Orange County... That includes GAF’s most prestigious President’s Club Award which we’ve earned the last two years in a row, as well as Master Elite (residential) status, Master Select (commercial) status and Solar Elite status!
Government and Industry Certifications - Is your contractor actively involved in environmental recycling, green building programs and consumer protection programs like Chandler’s Roofing is, such as the USEPA Lead Safe Renovation Certification (our certification number is NAT-112942-1), the USGBC and the National Storm Damage Center?
Local and Industry Media Outlets - Poke around, do a google search and do a little reading on the contractor you are about to hire. See if they have received any positive or negative press in your community for their work. After a very quick search, you will see that Chandler’s Roofing has been recognized not only as one of the top roofing and solar companies in Los Angeles and Orange County, but nationally as well.
Consumer Review Sites - There are a multitude of consumer review websites out their, each with a different approach to gathering data and testimonial on contractors. We have put together a list of what we feel are the most prominent that pertain to roofing and solar, along with a direct link and brief of our profile pages.
Social Media - There is nothing better than going to social media and asking your friends and peers who their preferred roofer or solar contractor is. In fact, we consider Chandler’s Roofing to be one of the most social roofing and solar companies around. We take great pride in the fact that over 65% of our business comes from referrals and repeat customers who acquire new property. There is nothing better in our book, than hearing one of our past happy customers refer to us on their favorite social media site as “their roofer” or “their solar contractor”! Take a look below at our favorite social media platforms and please, even if you aren’t in the market for a new roof or solar system, connect with us anyway... We love to stay connected!
