The sturdiness of The Alaskan starts with its foundation - Malarkey’s fiberglass mat coated with the finest SBS modified roofing asphalt. The fiberglass mat, the product of decades of Malarkey research and development, forms the tough base that a shingle needs to ensure the quality of your roof.
While the "rubberizing" aspect of SBS increases flexibility and weatherability, SBS modified asphalt also adds strength to The Alaskan backbone. The resilience of an SBS modified asphalt shingle makes it the perfect shingle to "toughen" your roof and be the best barrier to the worst that Mother Nature has to offer.

Another benefit of SBS modified asphalt is greater granule adhesion for the shingle. Malarkey plants operate with a manufacturing standard higher than the industry benchmark - Malarkey only allows half the granule loss allowed under ASTM D4977. And, when granules stay on then shingle longer, your roof lasts longer.
